No fear, Downingtown East Seniors and all our Wedding and Catering clients today, the Drexelbrook Catering team is prepared for dinner and is not attending any "End Of The World Parties" It is business as usual!
So what exactly would be your last meal? Have you ever given it a fleeting thought? The book & related Time Magazine article "My Last Supper" is worth the read and offers some great insights into what The Last Suppers of world Famous Chefs and Celebrities would have.
In the book there are a few interesting approaches to the question. Jamie Oliver Wants Spaghetti with Three Kinds of Hot Peppers. Ferran Adria, molecular gastronomy fan and chef of Spain’s El Bulli restaurant wants a tasting menu of seafood, finishing with fruit from the Amazon “that I had never tasted before.” April Bloomfield of New York’s Spotted Pig hungers for an English roast lunch – roast beef with mashed and roasted potatoes, boiled carrots, carmelized Brussels sprouts and roasted parsnips. For dessert, she’d like a pie made with bananas, dulce-de leche cream and grated chocolate.
What strikes the readers of the book is how intensely personal the selections are – recalling childhood meals, favorite food experiences or memories of home. Call it comfort food for the gourmet, but each food selection seems like a tiny glimpse into the soul of the chef – who he or she really is when the restaurant doors are closed and the white jacket comes off.
So once again I ask! What is your last supper?
In a five minute survey of those I share an office with, I received a very diverse group of answers. Jean Fernandez went the logical and spiritual route of "The Eucharist". Christina Lyle sticking to her strong vegetarian beliefs chose a meal of Grilled Zucchini, Fresh Tomatoes, Fresh mozzarella, and Sugar Plum Spice Tea. Jessica McBrearty chose Lobster Dynamite Rolls from her favorite Sushi House in King of Prussia. Kira Watt chose Rack of lamb, Garlic Mashed Potatoes & Haricot Vert. This she says if her favorite & her Birthday dinner every year. Oh, Yes, She went with a Chocolate Martini as Dessert! Bob Wojtowicz, a fellow foodie chose a Simple New York Strip. As for me, I think I need to shop around. I want some perfectly seared Foie Gras, a slightly greasy Cheese Steak, Calamari from Moon Struck, Butter Pecan Cheesecake from Agustos and a Good Malbec! I think I want Carole King as my entertainment and Mick Jagger to join me and my family at the dinner table!
So as 6:00PM comes & goes, I ask you, What would you want? Maybe this is as good a time as any to have it! I think that in the the midst of all the business and stress tonight may be as good a time as any to open that special bottle of wine, treat myself to a favorite food or just relax with someone special.
